K, I believe that the song has to do with self-knowledge, and true identity. The band comments on the way people tend to live their lives, "sleeping" through it instead of facing the "judgement" that concentrates below the surface. People like to think that "all we are is golden" rather than dealing with true feelings and falling outside of the comforts of what's expected.
Everyone around the narrator in the song is "saying something" but are they right, or do they just make excuses. The song mentions the notion of savoring something secretly--it could be criticizing those who are different in the public and alone; it could also be saying that it's good to be able to be someone that no one can really judge, someone mysterious and outside the normal.
The song echoes sentiments from books that I've read such as The Awakening, with the notion of sleeping through life, and Invisible Man, with the notion of being unseen.
But the song is ambiguous like a poem and i could be totally wrong, or I could be right about one aspect. Sorry to write a lot.
