The title, "Emergency Exit" refers to how you can use death as a means as of escape at any time. You should not, however.
The narrator knows that his time on earth is up, and he's fine with it. He's done everything that he's set out to do, and he is fully prepared to die and "let the good Lord near." But before he goes, there's one bit of advice he has to say to those whose lives have only just begun.
"Kindness will find you when darkness has fallen round your bed. Kindness will follow. Children will wander til the end."
In other words, never give up when all seems lost. Kindness will find you eventually. And kids, this world is a big place. Feel free to wander and take in all it has to offer.
With that said, he's ready to step beyond the veil that seperates life and death. He doesn't know what's waiting for him on the other side, but as he goes, its with a smile across his face.
This my favorite off Guero! Anyway...
