An extremely relatable song. You're at home getting all "dolled up", and in that moment as you look into the mirror you feel pretty and confident. Then as you leave your house and are surrounded by people, you grow weary. You compare yourself to others and you feel that you can never compete with them.

Upon returning home your confidence has demolished and you once again think you're wretched looking. All you want to do is be alone and push everyone else away. After all, you're not pretty and so obviously that means you don't deserve anything or anyone.

When someone tells you how they feel about you ("I love you, pretty"), you deny it. That person is pretty and therefore above you. Once again you feel that you don't deserve this person's love or compliments.

The "monster" could be a number of things, but I feel it's your mind. The reality is that you're probably not ugly and there are people who do care about you. The mind is a powerful monster that warps everything.
