A great tune with a bright, happy guitar riff. I literally spent hours listening to it on my bedroom stereo over 30 years ago. This song originally appeared on the album "Eric Clapton" in 1970. The other big hit on this album was "After Midnight". On this solo venture, Clapton had surrounded himself with a large group of talented friends including the lovely Rita Coolidge. Clapton was rediscovering his Christian roots at this time, and I have no doubt that this song is about Jesus Christ. Whoever typed in the lyrics above may not have them quite right... I'd always thought it went "MY life was like a desert flower burning in the sun, until I found the way to love was harder said than done!". How do I know that Christ is the subject of the song? Well, it was soon after this album when Clapton formed "Blind Faith" with Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and Rick Grech. A Clapton track on that album was entitled "Presence of the Lord" and the lyric goes "I have finally found a way to live in the presence of the Lord". Great artists always discover the truth sooner or later!
