Awesome song. I think Carl Anderson's version is the best..amazing voice. And yeah, Judas was portrayed as a man with doubts, not the incarnation of evil here, which was certainly a departure from usual christan dogma.
I like Carl Anderson's visual portrayal of Judas - but I think Murray Head sings the parts more powerfully.
Especially "Damned for All Time" and Judas' Death". Compare them and decide.
As to whether Judas was doing God's indirect will or not - that is for theologians to wrangle about...
