I think the songwriter wrote this about asking (someone, something, himself) for the reason as to why we are put on this earth. I think maybe he is also asking as to if there is a god out there watching over him.

I have heard that some people believe when they day die, they become a star.

"I kick back and watch the stars. They say: “This day will come so please don’t be afraid.”

Looking at the stars and wondering when his day will come.

"Abandoned body, mobility of “think”. Aesthetic proof beyond nimbus, Come find me away, away, away."

The songwriter wondering if there is an afterlife perhaps, and if there is will it find him?

"Coffee-fuelled robots with plans. Dollars, dimes, supply and demand. We need something more. Something more."

The songwriter demanding that people need something more to live for.

"World way out there. You’re sort of strange."

The songwriter finishing up the rest of the song saying he can't explain what his purpose in the world is, and that the world sometimes can confuse him.

"Fruit for the brain. Hope of true source. But it’s so far. It seems way too far."

I think this means that the only thing we have to keep us strong is hope. Hope of a better day, and hope for the answer to all of life's questions. Even though it seems so far away.
