"I have often had to depend upon / The kindness of strangers"

That's a reference to Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, in her last lines in the play, Blanche DuBois says how she "always depended on the kindness of strangers."

"But I've never been asked / And I never replied / If I supported the Glasgow Rangers"

the Rangers are the Protestant football (soccer) team in Glasgow, Scotland. Their rivals are the Glasgow Celtic Football Club which was the Catholic football club. The fans tended to divide along sectarian lines and if someone asked you if you supported the Rangers or Celtic, then you were being asked if you were Protestant or Catholic.
