Cover art for Midnight lyrics by Red Hot Chili Peppers

I just finished reading Anthony Keidis' autobiography Scar Tissue, in which he battled drug abuse and addiction. in the writing stages of By the Way he had finally settled his life and found sobriety, but he still felt the urges of turning back. The closest time he came to relapsing was one night when he decided to drive to downtown LA, buy some drugs, and get fucked up. Just as he was leaving he looked up and saw the full moon glowing above him and realized he wasn't about to let go of his life and go through all that pain of losing everything yet another time. He then turned back and stayed home. Who knows, it could have been Midnight. This song definetly seems to have elements of his addictions and pains in it. Just my two cents.

By the way, before I read Scar Tissue I read a good book called A Million Little Peices written by James Frey. I thought it was a powerful novel despite the media criticism. However, reading Anthony's work in Scar Tissue was by far more an emotionally powerful book. It was difficult to read because it was so accessible for me or anyone to relate to. It had an astonishing greater effect on my life than Frey's book. Even a month after reading it, I can't stop thinking about Anthony's life story. Highly recomended to anyone, fans of the band or not.
