I'm pretty sure this song is about being rejected/let down. the whole first section is about how light can play tricks on your mind, like how girls can play tricks on you. He's really nervous to tell this girl how he feels about her. When you're nervous, your senses become heightened ("I am listening, I'm hearing every single word"). The "sighs and changing minds" means that he gets rejected. The title, Several Arrows Later, is talking about how cupid shoots arrows. He thinks everything would be fine if he could just give her some magical love arrows.
