I agree this is a hard song to break down...but it's still one of my favs from the cd.
The way I see it is, he was infatuated (maybe to the point he might have thought he was in love) with this girl for probably only a brief time (probably met at a party hince the second verse). They had a one night stand (in his car apparently). The gun was a metaphor for the control she had over him, and the bullet in the head was basically her leaving and not contacting him again and him left by himself, or something like that.
