The whole thing about God kicking with both feet is an old Irish/Northern Irish phrase, I think, and it's about the 'troubles' (understatement if I ever saw one) in Ireland. In case you don't get it, Protestants and Catholics both claim they're right about everything (including God) and that God is on their side - in other words, God apparantly kicks out against both religions, and yet there's no real mark to show this. The only people doing any kicking are the people on Earth who are kicking each other. Mind you, I'm an ignorant Englishman whose only tie to Ireland is that my cousin's wife is Northern Irish and that my great-grandmother was Irish. If anyone with more expertise wants to set any of that straight, feel free.
