This is the Title track of the album Mud Slide Slim. I heard it as a young lad of 10 the year it was first released (1971). My older brother got it as a Christmas present, but only listened to it once or twice. When he was out of the house I played it at least a 100 times, usually on sunny Sunday afternoons! Like most music of the era, this track is a protest song... but it's a different kind of protest. It's about refusing to get caught up in the fast-paced urban lifestyle. It's about re-tuning your life into enjoying simple pleasures... taking it easy and stopping to smell the flowers. This song evokes powerful feelings of a lifestyle I can strongly identify with. The simple life, but one that's full of satisfying work - close to the land, growing your own food, etc. Almost like being Amish, but not quite. I've often dreamed about that "cabin back in the woods" that James Taylor sings about. I know exactly what it looks like. Be honest, don't you see it to?
