i agree with alice. i don't think this song is supposed to be between a two men. in my opinion, one should not assume that the gender of a performer is absolutely the gender of the song's character. it's obviously a dialogue; one can tell that much from the beginning: "oo, loverboy, whatcha doin' tonight, hey boy?....... that's because i'm a good old fashion loverboy." it could be a dialogue between the loverboy and his male lover, the loverboy and his female lover, even the loverboy and himself.
that said, i usually think of two men when i hear this song. i love this song! i think i may be a gay man trapped in a woman's body... :)
