To me, this song isn't political.

To me, the song's about breaking free from other people's visions of who or what you should be.

Almost everyone wants to be a certain way or do certain things just because it's what other people tell them to do. They are trying to live up to other people's expectations instead of using their own free will.

"It's in the way we never seem to get it right A systematic form of bowing down and under, and all we know is what we are, without the faith in who we are, so desperate."

When people don't "get something right", they have a tendency to just give up. This is a form of "bowing down and under" to everyone who told you that your visions and dreams of who you could be were wrong and impossible.

"Now you've just been spoken for Now you've just been sold"

If you don't persue your dreams, someone else will try to make you persue theirs. If you don't speak for yourself, others will speak for you, and in a sense OWN you and your free will.

I think the rest of the lyrics point toward that theme as well. Great song.
