I agree with you. I had never really read the lyrics because the melody is so interesting that I didn't feel I had to understand it to love it, but now that I've realised what it's about, I like it more.
It's a good thing that artists take position on that type of subject. The way it is expressed is very wise and poetic and the melody enhances this feeling. I mean, the subject "the media lies to you" is not really new, so it was hard to make something original, and they managed to do it yet.
Of course, the song makes me think of the film by michael moore "farenheit 9/11". You may not have seen it, if you live in the States, but here in Europe it had quite a strong impact and a lot of people saw the film, which was a sharp criticism (very subjective) of the policy of the USA regarding the war in Iraq.
