I think the inspiration for this song was how people believe that the media is their friend. It offers them a substitute for a normal relationship by making them feel like they have shared something with someone else when they watch a program. Blinko calls the "media friend" a "transparent so close friend" because it isn't a real friend, but it becomes like a substitute friend for the lonely people who feel the need to constantly be watching TV.
The green to feel blue represents the media offering you money to feel sad, like what happens when people go on day time talk shows.
