Lazarus could've just been a nickname.
I'm not sure whether this song relates to real events or the bible, but here are my opinions on the meaning:
11/05/94 6:30am - He wakes up feeling ill, but isn't sure why. (perhaps he senses that something bad must have happened)
He goes back to sleep, but gets a phone call telling him that Lazarus has died.
11/08/94 6:30pm - Lazarus's funeral, he is 'dressed in the clothes he loved', with all his favourite things, and his friends are mourning for him.
Presuming that Lazarus did commited suicide, this guy feels it was unjust and 'ungodly'. He's shocked by his friend's death, and wishes he had a chance to talk to Lazarus before he died.
