The artist is telling people that are losing hope and feel like they can't go on anymore to just hang on no matter what because "Things will get better, boy" and he's saying "It catches up with all of us on certain afternoons" which showes the artist also is going through a hard time, but he's strong so he'll hang and get through it even if he has to crawl he'll never stop moving to try and get through it. And Steve99 is right, what kind of idiot gets the line "I'm certain after you" out of this song, that doesn't even make sense.
