I think that BR is trying to tell us that there is no god and there is no legitimate reason to believe in a god.
But I won't run in place (Are we blind?) in the human rat race (There's no way)
I can set the pace (What we have) and accept my fate (Is shattered faith)
Shattered faith (Here and now)
Shattered faith (No reward)
I think the above lyrics are BR looking down pitifully on all the people who make religion such a huge part of their lives, and they're wasting their time, effort, and money on something that doesn't even exist.
Eternal life, eternal truth, eternal secrets
Isolated hopes and hypotheses just
Leave me feeling so hungry
I think in those lyrics BR is saying that churches and theists try to sell you all this shit about eternal life and all of the mysteries and all the things that religion supposedly explains, and it leaves them feeling so hungry for the truth instead of the garbage that they're fed by theologians.
I had a dream, light and carefree
But now there's doubt and gravity
I think that this bit says that they once believed in god, maybe when they were really young or something, but they sort of drifted from it because it does not make sense, "but now there's doubt and gravity." I think that also says that it's so much easier to live life believing in god and having the security of living forever, instead of having to understand that you'll simply cease to exist when you die, or whatever the case may be. Life is much easier when god is looking out for you.
