I'm not sure if he's saying the things I think he's saying, but as a son who was very selfish when I should have been more supportive to my mom, while she was greiving her loss. But even though I wasn't all I should have been, my mother still bounced back and moved on, like the person the song is about.
Looking at the lyrics again, it seems he's writing it to a girlfriend who was grieving the loss of her mother. Just my thoughts. Either way, the song is great when I'm in a good mood.
