i think this song may have some kind of parallel to John Winthrop's City upon a Hill speech in 1630 when the Puritans came to new england and started the Mass. Bay coloney.
In the speech, Winthrop preaches about how he has this vision of a beautiful city upon a hill in the new world, that they must all work together to make the city work. Which relates to the line "So bring all your hammers, your nails, and your tools."
I also believe that the Puritans started their voyage from Calvary. Which explains the line "Haven't you traced the steps back from Calvary?"
Other than that, this is an amazing song, one of my favorites from Braddigan.

I believe that Calvary is the place where Jesus was crucified...thus, that line.

Beautiful song, my favorite by Braddigan. But of course, all of his songs are amazing.

Christ was definitely NOT crucified in Calvary.
