Have you ever tried putting clothing on animals? They don't seem to enjoy it. And maybe he got "Spunky" from some people who had a bunch of puppies/kittens for free in their garage. My mom picked up her last cat at a Garage sale.
I mean, maybe he just wanted a song about his pets and how much happiness they bring him.
