It's impossible to decide which of HD's two scribes, Hart and Mould, are the more versatile. I think this is one of Hart's best.

This is a deeply affecting balland, and it's all the more admirable for its candour. It seems to combine genuine affection with resignation to an imminent breakup, and it does this well, treading a difficult line between mawkishness and disinterest.

(at least that's my interpretation)

If you consider this this alongside 'The Girl of Heaven Hill', a frenetic tour de force in power punk, you can begin to see how much range Grant had, and if anything, he was the minor contributor to the group alongside Mould, who is also rather talented.

This goes part of the way to explaining how influential HD were. It's amazing how much of alternative rock and even mainstream rock, owes to what they produced in their brief but prolific career.

I hope many fans of contemporary alternative rock rediscover Husker Du alongside other bands like The Replacements and Sonic Youth. They're very underappreciated.
