The first verse is quite obviously about wanting to die and loosing the will to live.
The "Escape takes lead" verse describe an alternative dimension/world/similar.
The second verse is pretty straightforward, but it's function is to tie the first and the escape verses together.
The third verse can be understood as suicide, or as entering the otherworld.
The general theme of this song is the afterlife, and discontent with the present life.
