I think it's about government - how they do evrything behind closed doors (A secret society) whilst ignoring the real problems of poverty and inequality ('For all the love that - we have destroyed')
Could also be taken as a call for good old fashioned secular socialism ('Ban all this religion') and dismay at what democracy has 'achieved' in the past 200 years.
