I think this is about a Christian friend of the author's. This person appears to have a lot of head knowledge and can discern truth quite well, but lacks the crucial ingredient of love in the way that they live it out. It seems that there is no love in the way this person conveys the truth to others, or the way they act on it. The author, however, knows that without love, he is nothing - no amount of faith or knowledge can replace the crucial point of our existence - to love God, be loved by him, and love others with that same love.
I think it sounds like this person is a pastor or a parent or something - "It's hard for me to honor the things that you say" indicates that it is someone he should be respecting. Perhaps someone who has had some theological training ("I'm amazed by the depths of your reason") but has lost perspective a bit.
Awesome band. Super deep lyrics and original music - and thats a beautifully rare thing!
