yeh it seems to me like a bit of a break up song. a chick breaking up with him, and even tho she is saying she wont hurt him, she does and he can feel the pain.

i think the chorus symbolises him being ready to give up on her. like he says he is ready to drop/fall' and cos she is pushing him, she also wants him give up on her. its like the scenario is her trying to break up with him, and he is saying he is ready to give up on her and he doesnt want her to try to sugarcoat it or be nice anymore, ie dont call. he wants her to keep pushing him to the edge so it'll be easier to jump off --> she keeps hurting him but that makes it easier for him to turn her back on her.

(i think its a sad song, i dont think it about making a change for the better). i think its jsut about realising people sometimes dissapoint you or hurt you, and that when that happens sometimes the best thing to do is to leave those ppl behind, even if it means giving up on something that was once good.

i think that the opening line 'and today was a day like any other' might have some symbolic meaning in the story of the album, but im not sure what it is.

plus the monolog after the second chorus... im not sure if that has much to do with the breaking up or ifs its just a realisation he comes to once he has given up on this girl, maybe the next morning even - it feels like an afterthought to me tho. i think it means that once he gave up on this thing that used to be good, his perspective alters and he sees how things like pop-music and image just dont matter as much. its almost like letting go of her allowed him to let go of other worries in his life. tho the adjustment is painful (he needs caffies and asprin) the realisation is clear and worthwhile.

haha i didnt mean to go on that much. i really like this song, and i believe that your whole perspective can cahnge with just one day or one event.
