Tears And Rain Lyrics

i think this song has a lot to do with the identity crisis that people of modern society are going through. the concept of the unique self, uninhibited is crushed by the need for conformity rather than just acceptance.

'shed the clothes that become my skin'... strip away the facade put up to conform, 'see the fire that burns within my needing'... reveal the true wants, desires, etc.

the reference to Dorian Gray is perfect for the subject, showing how our need to subvert the true self to conform will only result in 'tears and rain' unseen to the rest of the world... pain that has its comforts, but also its internal rammifications.

he says 'how i wish i could walk through the doors of my mind'... wanting to for once be able to think without the influence of society... without the narrowness of conformity. 'so cold with fear'... expressing the motivation behind conformity, fear of isolation, being disliked, etc.

at least thats what i thought...

its a beautifully written song... -ash
