TO ME this song is simply about going through a severely bleak, depressing time in life... having nowhere to go, noplace to fit in, no one to call your love... and slowly getting it all.
I think the song is really just about being loved after such a long, bleak, depressing period of not being loved...
But I can see where it can very well be religeous.
