On Your Own, to me, is just a song about lonliness and longing. Richard seems to have been left down by all of those close to him, causing him to feel like he'll never find someone to fill the void, dooming him to eternal solitude. Or some shit like that.
But after listening to "Lucky Man", it appears things improved eventually.
