A little extra about this song. Right before the CD came out, Coldplay had a special on MTV where they played all the songs on the album and chatted about what each song was about. When Chris was talking about this one, along with the fact that he had written the song to be performed by Cash, he said that this was one of the few songs he'd written that obviously wasn't about a girl. Not to say anyone's wrong for thinking it's about two lovers; it can mean whatever you want it to mean, but it seems like Chris' focus in this song is his spirituality.

When I listened to this entire album as a college kid, most songs seemed to be about Chris singing to/about a lover, or to/about the listener. Now, after years of yoga, meditation, breath work (i.e. spiritual practice), the album portrays a powerful message of awakening, and one's relationship to the deepest parts of oneself, and our infinite relationship to God that resides inside. The fact that the interpreter can hear the songs in both ways shows how mature, intelligent, and aware Coldplay's lyrics are. Absolutely fantastic. I love Parachutes and...
