I know so many people who have had so many oppertunities to better themselves, but they just sit around and let the oppertunities pass them by because they sit there and try to convince everyone around them that they are content with where they are right then at that time, even though they bitch and complain about everything and everyone around them 24/7. It's just such a pathetic way of living... and those lines really hit home when I think about them.
I don't necessarly think that it is about someone who died, even though it could be. I think it is about someone that the songwriter knew or had a connection with who left him to persue something better in some larger then life sort of way and now the writer wishes he would have done the same. All throughout the song he is trying to convince himself it is O.K., but at the end he finally admits that it is not OK, but that is where he is at.
