This song, which I consider to be the best song of Bush and one of the greatest of all times, is highly underated by non-real-fans.
I think this song is about drugs. "casting a stone from your hand" clearly sounds like picking yourself with a heroin or other shit needle. In a way, you get to be stoned from something you cast from your hand...
Also, the Razorblade suitcase, is something some high class junkies (really!) use to keep the spoons, needles, pipes, and other stuff they use to get high.
Also, it seems Gavin (or the guy in the song) doesn't mind to look like a human rag if the drugs get him to forget the bad things in his life...
