mae is not a christian band. they've stated this specifically on their website. while i don't doubt that some of the band members have christian beliefs, i don't think that they mean for all of their songs to be interpreted in a religious way. i've seen a lot of people on this site try to connect the songs to god somehow. a lot of them could be interpreted that way, but i doubt that they were written with that connection in mind; if they had been, mae would've just come out and said they were a christian band.
I don't think you need to 'say' you're a "christian band' to be able to write some spiritual things... It's a part of life for many many people and artists like to write about their lives... soo.. the reason I see this song as a very God-desperate song
( I hate that everyone else in this forum uses "religious" for religious just means going through rituals.. it's nothing extremely personal and intense)

This is the very feeling you'd get if you had a true experience with God... it's like a voice that shatters the darkness... just pure light.
