I agree that this song is making a point about the way all men have become generalised and degraded. It's because of the way women have had to struggle to fight against men's oppression and dominance in the past, the tables have turned now, but almost too far, and it's almost as if men have to defend themselves, and prove that they aren't like the average perceived sterotypical male that uses and abuses. It's from a man's point of view - and I think it makes a good point that even if there are men still like that today - i.e. "I'm often reminded of the fools I'm among" - it doesn't mean all are, that they realise there's stil lsome jackasses out there, but they want to be judged individually, not just as a part of the whole of whatever masculinity supposedly is.
