-When things get better in life he'll go back to believing in God
"The night can't change my heart there's nothing I can do"
-He thinks that he shouldn't be blamed for the things going wrong in his life and that him abandoning his faith is something he can't control
"When grey skies turn blue, When dreams do come true, Will you be the way that I remember you?"
-When things get better and when his prayers get answered, since then he'll "come back for you" will God be the same way he remembered when he was a believe before
About the cold wind on his face being the only thing he's felt in a such a long time I think it means that nothing good is happening in his life and well, all the chorus interpretation.
