When i hear this song; i dream away. If there would be one song that could make me cry, it would certainly be this one. Unfortunateley, any can do that with me. Unfortunately..
It's very melancholic; it gives off a very special, melancholic, nostalgic, cosy, warm, lovely, though a bit sad, somber (wich song of the Doors isn't somber after all ! ;) ).
Oh yeah; mind the wonderful organ work by Ray Manzarek during the second strofe and during the La, la. Its probably this that gives the song that strange melancholic, bit sad and somber emotions (like Ray's organ does in almost every doors song i thing).
My favourite lines are 'Come with me dance, my dear; Winter's so cold this year', just beautiful.
To return to the strange combination of feelings that this songs has in it (lovely, warm vs sad, somber) : That really fits with the lyrics: It's about 2 people that fall in love or are still in love in the winter. The winter actually is a sad, somber, depressing time in the year: cold, so everyone stays in his warm house and so there are less social contacts and people may get a bit lonely,.. Everybody knows what i am talking about.. But although, those 2 persons love each other and are very close and they feel warm when they are together.. => A warm relationship in a cold environment..
You can see: The sound of the song AND the lyrics have the same opposite feelings in it.
This is a perfect unity between 'the instrumental (part of the) song' and 'the vocal (part of the) song'.
I often sit down, close my eyes and listen to this song, i love it beacause it touches me. It touches me and i feel fine with it because i am not afraid..

One of the most underrated songs by the Doors !
