this is such an amazing song, so emotional. to me personally, its about two guys who are in love with the same girl. it looks like one of them is going to get the girl and the other isnt - hence ''paper champion''. i think the middle section describes in the most beautiful way the utter agony our ''paper hero'' feels not being able to see her or speak to her (severed tongues and glowing eyes) and the pain he feels at being ''rendered obsolete''. in the end he decides to let fate take its course and whatever happens, happens (let blood run like a waterfall.)
im probably way off the mark, but thats what this song means to me because its exactly the situaution im in at the moment. one of my favourite songs of all time, from one of the most innovative and original bands to come out for a long time.
