to me, this song is about two people who have known each other for quite a long time, and the girl is in love with the narrator. he has developed feelings for her as well, and has been dwelling upon those feelings for awhile now. he decides to tell her about his feelings, but in such a way that he also says he'll only do something about them later on, because he's unsure of starting things with her or not, because he has a lot of insecurities he's got to work out.
the desperation in his voice during the last part of the song really hit home for me, it's so sweet. I can't get over those lyrics... the girl wants to seize the day and live life while she still can, professing her love to him and trying to convince him it's safe, that he can let his guard down with her, yet he still holds back...though at the same time telling her that eventually he'll come around. sounds like a frustrating situation, eh?
it's interesting how cryptic so many of their songs can be, and yet this one shouts loud and clear, totally obvious in what it's about. i love how vivid the imagery i get from this song is. dark day in the park, damp grass, lanterns hanging from trees... soft voices. warmth and a starry sky...
Edited by delial on May 28 2008, at 03:08AM
