Therefore the lyrics mean a lot to himself, but as they dance around the original subject matter are more open to personal interpretation, which is a great way to write amazing lyrics. "A Whole Lotta Weight" is no exception. Out of context, I think this song is about making a decision that you know is right for you and will make you happy, but people constantly tell you you're missing out on life but you retain that looking back you'd make the same decision.
