That is possibly one of the greatest few lines in a song ever - This guy is starting to lose sight of who he is and where hes going because he keeps leaving peple behind. Here he's leaving Maria as he steps out the door. The sadest thing is though is that he genuinly doesnt understand why maria feels the way she does - how helpless and confused must you be standing on the other side of that door like him with this girl so messed up and depressed. - I can hear the cries of maria in my head when i hear this song!! imagine what thats like for the guy in the song.
I can't figure out weather maria jumped off that building in this song(I dont think she did because I reckon that her saying she was thinkin of jumping happened BEFORE he left her at the beginning of the song and hes looking back on it) - Again though you can see here that the guy(adam?) is so warn down and kinda torn apart by seeing this girl he loves act and think like this that when she said 'hey im thinking of jumping' he didnt even reply.
When he looks on life now he don't see nothing round here! hes left behind everybody hes loved and now hes kinda left himself behind also in the process.
