I think it's about getting married, or at least a very serious committment, and the fear it inspires in many. "Forever, just the word that she said that means never To be with another together And with the weight of a feather it tore into me" meaning that the realization that it is FOREVER EVER, and no one else ever again. And that's a scary thought. "I blew it" suggests a rejection, or hesitation in the relationship.

"Then I knew it All the work that it took to get through it On the wings of a feather that flew it Fell onto my shoe it cut up into me" seems to be another realization that the relationship was/is worth it, and to throw it all away would be throwing away all the time and effort put into making it work. So there's a decision to try again. But then there seems to be some conflict with the friends/family: "Well, everybody's reaction is changing you [probably they are saying they should not take this person back because they will only do it again] But their love is only a fraction of what I can give to you" which obviously means, who cares what they think, all that matters is that we love each other, etc.

So then they decide to "just do it, get on a plane [Vegas?] and just do it" which obviously means they're going to make mad monkey love in some seedy Vegas motel as Mr. and Mrs. Whatever. Anyway, Jack told a whole story in like two verses, which is impressive enough, his songwriting abilities are improving. It's not a very original story he told (people write songs about this type of thing all the time), but he did it well. A very well written song musically, and the lyrics aren't stupid. My favorite song on the album as well.
