Wet Blanket Lyrics

To me this song is about the people I went to college with that I couldn't stand--those "cause people". These are the people who are so opinionated and self-righteous that people can't stand them. I think her friend keeps falling for this creep, and he is one of those faux-sensitive hippies (shaker knit clothes) who is actually verbally abusive to her. He acts like a earthy soul, playing his guitar and preaching his radical beliefs, but he is so caught up in his causes, he can't see that there is a time to drop it and just have fun. He can't stand to see her happy and enjoying life--he probably has one of those "If you're not angry, you're not paying attention" bumper stickers. He thinks music should all have a political meaning and that his girlfriend's friend's band (Metric) is too fluffy because they play pop. I don't know...that's just how I see it. I know a lot of people like this, and they are definitely wet blankets.

I mostly agree with everything except for the bumper sticker part. I think most people with bumper stickers like that are referring to the government, meaning 'if you're not angry with the government, you're not paying attention to the government.' A lot of those people are actually positive people to be around.
