To me its from the point of view of a guy whose so over his ex that he desperately needs to tell her how over her he is ("got to get this mesage to the press"). So in actual fact he's not over her at all, he's still madly in love with her and his constant repetitive mantra of "Every day i love you less and less" is an attempt to convince himself to get over her. He tries to tell himself that the love he gets from his parents and current girlfriend is sufficient for him, but despite him knowing that this might rationally be the case he still has feelings for her. He is confused like a rat running on a wheel and just wants to know what is real and what isn't. In short: the beauty that is post-relationship depression.
