to me this song represents a relationship where the girl is just "looking right through" him. she's so practical that she can't give in to love, because it's not something tangible or practical enough for her. but he still loves her.
i came to this conclusion due to my own experience....
i was laying outside with a very close guy friend of mine, who i have been in love with on and off for about 4 years. well this happened to be one of those on times. anyway, we were laying outside looking at the stars and i commented on how pretty the stars were and he basically gave me an astronomy lesson, like which ones weren't actually stars, and i immediately thought of this song.
He wouldn't just give in to the beauty of the moment. He's so "practical in the things" he says, and he "looks right through me." But it's still "bending my mind again."
