personally, i think this is about drugs. I think the "sumblime" is referring to some kind of high,because when you are high, you feel "boundless" like nothing can hold you down and everything is okay. So you are in a state of infiniteness, and in that state you may find things out about yourself that would have been hard to find when you were sober.
