it is a very deep metaphor, I think it's about being gay and the fear that goes along with it of not being accepted...think about it. Raspberry = fruit , fruit = gay. (No offence to homosexuals)

"always taken in by peers And friends and the heightened fears Over the years Now I know I'm not like everyone" (he's scared cause he's realizing he's gay)

"I can't change What I am" (many gay people would like to change but they feel as though they can't)

"There are a lot of choices (men...women???) So many voices ruling me (society) So many of them at once Yelling, "Everything's a mess"...I know" (he feels helpless)
