I'm guessing this song is about the music industry. "El Cielo" didn't sell many copies, so naturally, their label wanted Dredg to soften their sound/be radio friendly/whatever. I guess this song is their resistance of that.

"Not ... to make your wallet fat" - Dredg isn't here to sell millions of copies.

"So sing about love, sing about lust, so they will care" - The radio is full of shallow songs and to get on you have to conform so people will listen.

"That's what happens when you compromise your art, that's what sets us apart" - They don't want to sacrifice the focus of their art for a spot on the radio.

"We've got this far, I don't know if you care" - After ten years of playing and getting no recogintion

"But I think that you should swear, or something of the sort, show me you're trying" - If you take the literal term of "swear" as in "profanity", tons of bands spew needless f-words just to look "cool" or whatever

"Sing about lust/love so they can feel it" - Make your songs easy to understand, shallow, predictable, and the radio audience will like you
