No one here knows what they're talking about. Clearly this song is about typos, and it is very evident if you look at the lyrics of the song. What's ironic is that both comments by Padfoot1516 had typos ("alot" instead of "a lot", "realy" instead of "really"); even the one where he said that typos happen (it's "happen" not "happenen"). So, who's the idiot?

Anyway, here's a breakdown of why this song is about typos:

  1. "You are a razor blade You are precision-cut You are a stare sharp as the tack in my eye?" This is directed to when you make a typo and someone corrects you. The person correcting is usually very harsh with their observation, and the person corrected feels like an idiot (like you do, Padfoot1516).

  2. "As sharp-edged as questions the time I have left And so you are on my mind" The questions the Dashboard Confessional closet homosexual remembers when he was corrected. They are memorable and he thinks of the person who made them.

  3. "I need a burning stake I need a piercing dart I need something as hot as it is sharp" He needs a burning MISTAKE, or stake, for short. He definitely has a love/hate relationship with typos and those who make them. The dart and the hotness, well, that's self explanatory.

  4. "There's a possibility that this is happening to someone who's not me . . . "pretend That these spins and the webs Are actually desirable" Yes, it is happening to someone who's not you (Padfoot1516), as well as almost every other American Idiot. Yes, you can pretend that they are desirable, but really the spins (i.e., people who make mistakes all the time) and webs (i.e., people who insist that they are correct with what word they use) are useless.

That's exactly what the song is about. And if you tell me I'm wrong, your post better not have any typos.
