At first glance, this song seems like a ghost's lament to be with someone it loves.
But I think that it goes a bit deeper. The ghost, in essence, might be a person unable to approach the person he/she loves. He (for the sake of typing) is caught in two different worlds, ultimately indecision, about what he should do. Perhaps he left her for someone else, but now sees what he has done wrong. Perhaps he's repenting. But he cannot of course be revealed, or accepted by her, until the girl takes a leap of faith and trusts again.
